An Indomitable Survivor - Story of a Karma User

My name is Po-Wei Huang from Taiwan, and I’d like to share my story with you.

I lost both of my legs and right hand due to a serious explosion accident on June 27th of last year, and the remain left hand was also severely injured.
 
I miraculously survived under numerous times of surgeries and was finally discharged from the hospital. I gradually restored some body movements after many difficult and painful rehabilitation courses, and was able to handle things in daily life by using a manual wheelchair with help from family members and social workers. Soon I started to imagine the days that I’d be able to handle things by myself with limited assistance from others, which is why I started to seek for a suitable power wheelchair. 




















My first test-ride of power wheelchair was a rental from Karma, and I was really impressed by its comfortability and stability. The joyful feeling of moving around on my own again was indescribable, and I never wanted to get off from it until the last minute of its return time. Therefore I’ve decided to purchase a power wheelchair, and started to try out different brands of power wheelchair. 

Lightweight wheelchair is my first priority owing to living space limitation. I’ve tried many different brands and hope to find the most suitable one, but I soon found out during the early trial period that maintaining my body balance is the most challenging part due to my body gravity is differed from normal people since I’ve lost my legs, and this serious problem could lead to a dangerous and deadly fall. Other wheelchair companies had attempted to increase the front-end weight by securing with sandbags but did not succeed. 






















Fortunately, Karma’s professional customized design team is capable of fixing this problem, which is why I decided to choose a power wheelchair from Karma. The model I’ve chose is called “eFlexx”, which is a newly launched lightweight power wheelchair by Karma in 2016. “eFlexx” is characterized by lightweight, foldable and ellipse-shaped frame design, carried lithium battery is light and easy to disassemble. This battery can be simply removed from chassis to refill the energy without moving the wheelchair to socket.




















The custom-made service has significantly improved the gravity issue by lengthening chair body, the R&D team also adjusted the armrest and backrest, changed the power controller to the left hand side for me. Every adjustment of this wheelchair fulfills my need, and it is indeed a wonderful “custom made” experience.  


































Thanks to Karma for making me feel safe with my first power wheelchair, and I know I’ll always be supported by the whole Karma crew and can always rely on them.

不設限的悠遊未來,黃博煒的易遊體驗!



我是黃博煒,因為2015年6月27日的八仙塵爆意外,我截去了雙腳及右手,僅剩的左手功能嚴重受損。

出院,透過復,我逐漸恢復一些肢體動作,生活上部分事情可以自己達成。但是坐在輪椅上,始終需要他人協助。

這時候我就想到常常在路上會看到的電動輪椅,不需要人家推,一樣可以來去自如,所以我就開始尋找適合我的電動輪椅了。




















起初我開始試的時候,是康揚的戶外型電動輪椅,說真的,上去之後我就不想下來了,捨不得下來,因為過了這麼久我終於可以自己移動了! 

那種喜悅是無法形容的,每次只要有機會可以試用,我都會用到最後一分鐘才歸還,試了幾個禮拜以後,比較熟悉操作,開始找上廠商試車。

由於空間的限制,我是以輕便型電動輪椅為優先考量,這過程中我試了好幾台不同廠牌的車子,最後選擇了康揚。




















選擇康揚的原因,在於他們的服務,及客化的設計,在前期試用電動輪椅的過程,最難改善的問題就是重心的部分

由於我失去雙下肢,重心與他人不同,所以操作的時候容易有前輪翹起來後翻的問題,用其他廠牌的我嘗試過綁沙包在前端,依舊無法解決此問題,使我在使用上常常有翻車的危險。

與康揚聯絡時,公司告訴我他們可以改善此問題,因為他們有專業的研發團隊,可以依據客戶的需求來更改輪椅的結構。





















我使用的是今康揚最新上市的"易遊金剛",如其名易遊,著重於輕便、順暢且可摺疊,充電的部分也用輕巧的鋰電池,而且拆裝容易,充電時亦可以直接抽拔電池到家中充電,不需整台移動特定位置,輕鬆便利了許多。

客製化辦法不但改善了重心的問題,使車身加長,重心更穩,還加寬了把手及座椅的深度,伸展椅背也加高,控制器也改為左手,所有改裝的部分都是依據我的需求而考量。一有問題時,也以最快的速度來查看且更改,讓用戶可以使用的安心。




















易遊金剛是我第一台電動輪椅,雖然是剛上市不久的電動輪椅,
但是康揚用他們的專業用心,讓我使用的很放心。謝謝康揚公司,

Bring back the smile to people of Nepal

Nepal, the place closest to heaven, was badly shaken by a  
7.9-magnitude quake on April, 2015. The devastating and 
heart-broken disaster caused thousands of the dead or the 
injured. 

Its capital, Kathmandu, was seriously affected and many ancient 

buildings were severely collapsed.


People are homeless without sufficient water and electricity 
supplement. Landslides happen in several places because of 
the earthquake, causing the blocked roads so that the rescue 
team was not able to reach the remote villages to support them. 
The victims can only save themselves and the situation was critical.

Karma Medical established KHC (Karma Health Care), the branch 
office in India, in 2008, and we have been plowing the local India 
market directly for several years.



































Therefore, the safety of all the employees was to our most concern 
when the earthquake took place. Then, we thought of giving the aid 
to the victims in Nepal. 

KHC understood that most of the victims were aged or injured people 
so they had difficulty in walking. 

Hence, when KHC reported to TW Headquarters, the CEO
made direct decision that Karma Medical would deliver 50 wheelchairs 
against all odds to the devastated areas as a modest contribution.

Though the mental trauma would linger, what Karma anticipated was 
that the victims were able to bear the courage in mind and restore 
their livelihood.





















































It has been more than a year and Nepal has been restructuring. 
The victims do not give up their hope and has been recovering 
from the disaster. The smiles from the victims on the wheelchair 
speak louder than the words of appreciation.


We Karma people are deeply touched and motivated by their 
perseverance and we will keep on participating the charitable events 
actively to contribute to the society and to help people in need. 


With this, Karma will practice our company culture and philosophy 
of “Taken from society, give back to society”.
